Why Your Weight Changes on Other Planets
Your mass stays the same wherever you are in the Solar System, but your weight changes because weight depends on gravity.
On Earth, we experience Earth’s gravity. On the Moon, gravity is much weaker, so you would weigh far less. On Jupiter, gravity is much stronger, so your weight would be much higher.
This calculator uses each world’s surface gravity compared with Earth.
Weight on another world = Earth weight × surface gravity factor

What Is the Difference Between Mass and Weight?
Mass is the amount of matter in your body. It does not change when you travel from Earth to Mars or the Moon.
Weight is the force of gravity acting on that mass. This is why your weight changes from planet to planet.
In simple terms:
- Mass stays the same
- Weight changes with gravity
Why Do You Weigh Less on Mars?
Mars has weaker gravity than Earth. Its gravity is about 38% of Earth’s gravity.
That means a person who weighs 100 kg on Earth would weigh about 38 kg on Mars.
This does not mean the person has lost body mass. It simply means Mars pulls on them with less force.
Why Do You Weigh More on Jupiter?
Jupiter has much stronger gravity than Earth. A person would weigh more than twice as much on Jupiter compared with Earth.
However, Jupiter is a gas giant with no solid surface like Earth. The calculator still uses Jupiter’s commonly quoted gravity value to give a useful comparison.
Which Planet Has the Lowest Gravity?
Among the main planets, Mercury and Mars have some of the lowest surface gravity values.
The Moon, Pluto and small bodies such as asteroids have even weaker gravity. On very small objects, your weight would be tiny compared with Earth.
Which Planet Has the Highest Gravity?
Jupiter has the strongest gravity of the planets in this calculator.
Neptune also has stronger gravity than Earth, while Saturn’s gravity is only slightly stronger than Earth’s despite being much larger. This is because Saturn is less dense.
Can You Jump Higher on Other Planets?
Yes. Lower gravity means you could jump higher, at least in theory.
On the Moon, astronauts were able to make bouncing movements because lunar gravity is only about one-sixth of Earth’s.
On Mars, you could jump higher than on Earth, but not as dramatically as on the Moon.
